Its okay to not make lemonades!

`Make lemonades when life throws lemons at you` is a wonderful saying that revolves around us every now and then to ensure a positive, can-do attitude.

However, we fail to understand that, to make lemonades we need water, sugar, a .bowl etc., and just lemons will not do!! We may not be having the resources and we still want to make lemonades just because we have lemons 😕 This saying borders around toxic positivity!

The idea is simple: if things did not turn out how we wanted them to be or when life puts us across some unacceptable distress, our emotions would sink into deep despair! At that moment, it’s absolutely okay to feel bad/ sad about the situation.

Why is that Okay?

Today many of us have misunderstood optimism, that smiling through pain takes more than being happy!

To be very precise, when we try to make lemonades just because lemons hit us, it means we are trying really hard to suppress the negative emotions with unacceptable facts like .. being positive, the grass is greener on the other side and so on..

The tendency to keep ourselves happy when feeling disappointed leads to deficits in well being and greater depressive symptoms.

When we prioritize positive thinking forcefully, things can get real messy and uncomfortable to deal with unexpected experiences.

It is important to allow ourselves to be sad, anxious, depressed. It is absolutely fine to feel that way sometimes. Well, it would take some time to deal with the emotions, however, it is not IMPOSSIBLE to get out of it.

When life throws lemons, hold them, squeeze them and throw them away or just collect those and keep it aside, everything is okay. It is not necessary to make lemonades all the time. ACCEPT that nobody knows us better than us. Let us prioritize, what suits us best !!!

This is a situation, where we fail to accept reality, a painful reality! Well, the good news is we can still deal with it !

  1. We can try to accept the emotional state, and make sure that it is not ignored or dumped.

  2. let us understand something important! not everyone can deal with emotions as we do ! individuality matters! Stop shaming, or forcing people to be okay all the time!

  3. Do not trust the lives of people on social media. People project the best of their version and hardly come up with flaws!!

  4. What is not okay is to dismiss negative emotions, dump empathy and responding with false reassurances.

IT IS OK TO NOT BE OK!!!
